Reed looks to have HOF credentials

I suppose the one saving grace in Andre Reed’s omission from this year’s Hall of Fame induction class is that Cris Carter did not gain entry either. But if you match Reed’s numbers up to the 19 post-World War II wide receivers currently enshrined in Canton, he looks like a Hall of Famer to me. Career [...]

Wilson applauded for loyalty to Buffalo

At the Hall of Fame press conference announcing the 2009 class, Bills owner Ralph Wilson was applauded in Tampa for his loyalty to Buffalo as his team’s home city. Here was his comment that drew the applause. “When I started the franchise in Buffalo, I believe you have to have consistency in a franchise because [...]

Bruce down to two candidates to present him

Bruce Smith is down to just two candidates for presentation into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. One is obviously Marv Levy and he said the other is former defensive line and defensive coordinator Ted Cottrell. Mr. Wilson said he had honestly not given it any thought to this point.

Bruce and Mr. Wilson are in!

Bruce Smith and Mr. Ralph Wilson have been named to the 2009 Pro Football Hall of Fame class. It’s a six member class. We’ll have full coverage on Buffalobills.com. It’s going to be one heck of a party in Canton on Aug. 8.

Andre does not make the cut

Andre Reed did not make the cut for final consideration for enshrinement in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Reed was eliminated in the vote from 15 to 10. This is the third straight year in which he’s been eliminated in the first cut from 15 to 10.

Jim Kelly talks Super Bowl

Bills Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly was on NFL Network talking Super Bowl as he appeared on NFL Total Access this week.

Derek Fine’s high school jersey to be retired

Bills TE Derek Fine will have his high school jersey retired at his Oklahoma high school next week. Fine wore #20 in high school. He wears #86 for the Bills.

Goodell stamps Bills Toronto Series “successful”

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell was asked to assess the Bills Toronto Series, in his state of the league address in Tampa Friday afternoon, and he expressed a strong feeling that the initiative has gone very well. “The two games up in Toronto were tremendously successful for us,” said Goodell. ”We said the objective was to regionalize [...]

Fan Friday 1-30

Not surprisingly, free agency and the draft are dominating the questions I’m getting at AskChris@bills.nfl.net. Feel free to submit a question if you have one. Here we go. 1. Chris,          I have read before that Bill Parcells in the late 90′s (while with the Jets) brought in Kevin Mawae to stop Ted Washington when [...]

FA C LeCharles Bentley not retired… yet

Former Cleveland C LeCharles Bentley is open to a return to football provided it’s the right situation for him, though it’s hard to say what that means exactly. In an interview with the Cleveland Plain Dealer, he claims some teams are interested, but it wouldn’t be shocking to think that teams would be hesitant to [...]

Marshawn hoped to wear throwback helmet

Bills RB Marshawn Lynch, who was named to the AFC Pro Bowl roster Thursday to replace Titans RB Chris Johnson, had mentioned to Buffalo’s equipment staff that if he somehow made it out to Hawaii this year for the Pro Bowl, that he wanted them to pack his white standing buffalo helmet. For those that [...]

Franchise tags by position

Here are the franchise tags by position for 2009 for those that haven’t seen them. They were reported by the National Football Post. For those who were wondering if the Bills would use the franchise tag on Jabari Greer, $9.96M is all you need to see for your answer. The deadline to use the franchise [...]

Safeties & QBs see biggest franchise tag jump

The NFLPA released the 2009 franchise and transition tag figures in their annual meeting and it appears quarterbacks and safeties will see the biggest increase from 2008. Quarterbacks, whose franchise tag actually dropped from 2007 to 2008 ($12.6M to $10.7M), saw a 27% increase this year to $14.65M from the ’08 figure. Safety, a position [...]

Furrey speculated to land in Chicago

With Lions WR Mike Furrey to be released in the coming days, MLive’s Phil Zaroo tried to connect the dots with Furrey speculated to eventually sign with division rival Chicago, where not only is former coach Rod Marinelli now on the staff, but head coach Lovie Smith was on the Rams staff when Furrey was in St. Louis [...]

Lynch deserved Pro Bowl

Sure there are going to be arguments out there saying Houston’s Steve Slaton should have gone to the Pro Bowl instead of Marshawn Lynch. But Lynch is the one going to Hawaii. Sure Slaton had more productive numbers than Marshawn Lynch this past season, but Lynch has done more to earn the respect of his peers and NFL [...]

Leftwich and Simms have same agent

In a speculative piece on Yahoo sports, it’s mentioned that both free agent QB Byron Leftwich and Chris Simms have power agent Tom Condon as their representation. He’ll have to find two different destinations for them obviously. Chicago is naturally being mentioned since the Bears have publicly stated that quarterback is their top priority this [...]

New D-line coach is a good get

Hiring Bob Sanders to coach the defensive line is a heady move by Dick Jauron and his staff. Sanders is good friends with Perry Fewell, who likely recommended him for the job. Having another assistant with defensive coordinator experience is a valuable mind to have in the room when putting game plans together. Even better [...]

Toomer less likely to re-sign with Giants

Giants free agent to be Amani Toomer may just be available to a team like the Bills, who could use another veteran presence in their receiving corps with James Hardy’s health up in the air for 2009. Toomer sounded a bit disenchanted with his current club as a 20-minute interview with the press in Tampa [...]

Pro Bowl chance for Lynch?

Tennessee running back Chris Johnson was named to the AFC Pro Bowl roster after a breakout campaign as a rookie this season, but he suffered a high ankle sprain in the Divisional playoff game against Pittsburgh on Jan. 12. A day after the Titans loss to the Steelers, Johnson was wearing a walking boot and head coach Jeff [...]

Troy Vincent in interesting NFLPA battle

Former Bills defensive back Troy Vincent is one of the five remaining candidates for the NFLPA Executive Director post, formerly held by the late Gene Upshaw, and according to some he’s not the preferred candidate of the Association’s legal counsel. Pro Football Talk is speculating that a smear campaign against Vincent could ensue as a [...]
