DL Corey Mace not tendered
Lost in the shuffle of all the RFA tenders and players re-signed was the fact that exclusive rights player Corey Mace was not tendered. The former undrafted defensive lineman is now a street free agent and able to negotiate with any NFL club on a new contract.
Four FAs scheduled to visit today
Bills COO Russ Brandon said on 97 Rock (radio) this morning that four free agents are scheduled to visit One Bills Drive today. NY Jets WR Laveranues Coles, Cincinnati QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, Carolina G/C Geoff Hangartner and Pittsburgh G Kendall Simmons. As you all know free agent plans can change in a moment so stay [...]
RB Kevin Jones?
With Fred Taylor no longer an option, NFL Network’s Adam Schefter is reporting that the Bills have expressed interest in Chicago FA RB Kevin Jones. Jones has also reportedly drawn interest from the Jets, Rams and Bucs.
RB Taylor signing with Pats
In a less than surprising move, free agent RB Fred Taylor is going to sign with New England. Frankly the situation there is better as far as potential playing time because the need for running back help is greater. The team has also been more successful. No debate there, and Taylor stated firmly he wants [...]
LB Boley visiting Giants
Atlanta FA LB Michael Boley, speculated as a potential target of interest to the Bills is visiting with the New York Giants today according to the Newark Star-Ledger. Boley has not missed a game since entering the league four years ago as a fifth-round pick, but did lose his starting spot this past season in [...]
Pro Bowl G Waters wants out of Kansas City
It appears as if the Chiefs new hierarchy is rubbing veteran players the wrong way. According to the Kansas City Star, Pro Bowl guard Brian Waters has asked the team to move him after GM Scott Pioli reportedly refused to speak with Waters. At this year’s Pro Bowl Waters was apparently told by Cardinals Pro [...]
Birk breaks off talks with Vikes
Minnesota FA C Matt Birk is on the market after he reportedly broke off talks with the Minnesota Vikings. That according to NFLDraftBible. The Vikings had been trying to re-sign him in the 11th hour before free agency opened. Birk is a six-time Pro Bowl center and has played his whole career with his hometown [...]
Carolina OL Hangartner to visit Bills?
Carolina FA OL Geoff Hangartner is going to visit the Bills on Friday according to NFL Network’s Adam Schefter. With Brad Butler the only returning interior lineman under contract, following the release of Derrick Dockery, Buffalo has to address the guard and center position. Hangartner served the Panthers as a backup center and guard in 2008 [...]
RB Taylor to sign with Pats?
According to the Providence Journal free agent RB Fred Taylor is leaning toward signing with the New England Patriots. Both the Bills and Patriots reportedly made offers, but Taylor is reportedly being influenced by New England’s perennial success as he made no secret about wanting to win a Super Bowl title on his visit with [...]
How’s this for irony?
According to Washington Post, the Redskins are interested in bringing Derrick Dockery back after the Bills released him Thursday. Washington is the team that drafted Dockery back in 2003 in the 3rd round. He played his first four NFL seasons there.
Rams, Dolphins, Chiefs all after Jason Brown
According to the National Football Post, the Rams, Dolphins and Chiefs are all going to be bidding on Jason Brown at midnight tonight. He’s a nice player, but there’s no way I’m getting into a bidding war for a center of his caliber. He’s good, but he’s not crazy good.
Winborn maybe just needed the opportunity
With recently released Denver LB Jamie Winborn visiting One Bills Drive Thursday, I was interested to see that when given the chance to start (due to Boss Bailey injury) he had a career year and led the Broncos in tackles (117) and he played on the strong side where the Bills have a hole. Plagued [...]
Hamdan and Fox re-signed
For those that chose not to read the whole writeup on the RFAs, Gibran Hamdan was re-signed to a new contract as was fellow restricted free agent Dustin Fox. Both signed right before the deadline allowing the Bills to avoid putting a restricted tender on them. I don’t have the contract numbers, but presumably Hamdan [...]
Jets G Moore officially released
The Jets finally pulled the trigger on releasing Brandon Moore this afternoon. In the wake of the Derrick Dockery release I’d jump on Moore immediately. The guy is coming off arguably his best season and he’d make for a strong left side of the line next to Peters. Moore had been making peanuts, though the [...]
Royal subtraction raises TE position need
With the release of veteran TE Robert Royal, Buffalo now has three tight ends on their roster (Fine, Schouman and Stupar) who combined have a total of 18 NFL starts. All of those belong to Schouman (13) and Fine (5). And while I certainly have faith that Fine and Schouman in expanded roles can provide [...]
Royal just never panned out
Former Bills GM Marv Levy, really thought that Robert Royal was going to blossom into a dependable all-around tight end given the opportunity to be a regular starter. But it never materialized. Royal, despite having career numbers this past year, unfortunately became part of a long line of tight ends for the Bills that never became [...]
Dockery’s contract didn’t fit the performance
Derrick Dockery’s contract proved to be his undoing after just two years. Getting paid an average of $7M a year with a two-time Pro Bowl tackle immediately to his left, did not make it easy for him to succeed. That being said Dockery’s play was inconsistent, particularly in 2008. The guy was a hard worker, [...]
Looks like Jason Brown will hit market
Baltimore Ravens free agent C Jason Brown looks like he’ll hit the market. According to the Sporting News the Ravens have told him he won’t be back with them as they focus their attention on Ray Lewis and Bart Scott, who are also free agents. Brown will garner interest. The Vikings and Dolphins are among [...]
