The draft has kind of taken a backseat in the wake of all the T.O. hoopla, but Georgia Tech DE Michael Johnson, who is a physical freak (6’7″ 266) ran a 4.61 and a 4.66 at his pro day. That according to NFL.com’s Gil Brandt. He also did 23 reps on the bench, which is impressive knowing how long his arms are. At the combine he also added a 38.5 inch vertical.
The only knock on him is he amassed a majority of his stats against inferior competition and his greatest attribute is his potential, which could be limitless if he applies himself. Of course that’s also the rub.
I thought he’d be a late first or early second round pick, but if there’s an early run on DEs he could be off the board by the 20′s in the first round.
I think he’d be a good pick for Buffalo in round 2 if he’s there. He may not be an every down player in year one, but Perry Fewell said he’d be fine with that. And Johnson could certainly wreak some havoc on passing downs.
