Inside The Bills

A Byrd first… and second

Posted by Chris Brown on December 29, 2009 – 7:26 pm

With Jairus Byrd being named to the AFC Pro Bowl roster as a rookie he set a precedent for Bills defensive backs.

No other rookie defensive back has ever been named to a Pro Bowl roster. The last time a rookie defensive back was named to an All-Star team was in 1964, when Butch Byrd was given All-AFL honors after his rookie season.

Byrd is just the third Bills rookie since 1970 to be selected to the Pro Bowl joining Joe Cribbs (1980) and Greg Bell (1984).

He’s the first Bills DB named to the Pro Bowl since Nate Clements in 2004.
