The Bills ranked high in the Dallas Morning News report on rookie productivity for the 2009 season.
Buffalo ranked third in the league with only Jacksonville and Detroit showing better productivity from their rookies. The Bills had a total of 52 starts from their rookies in 2009. Only Jacksonville (64) and Detroit (59) had more.
The Dallas Morning News also has a draft grade on the class for each team right after the draft and right after their first season. Here was Rick Gosselin’s assessment of the Bills.
First-round pass rusher Aaron Maybin missed all of training camp in a contract holdout, then contributed nothing in the season – no sacks. But Buffalo’s next four draft picks (C Eric Wood, FS Jairus Byrd, G Andy Levitre and TE Shawn Nelson) all became starters.
April grade: B
January grade: A
Detroit and Jacksonville were the only other NFL clubs that got ‘A’ grades in the report besides the Bills, with the Jaguars earning an A+ for the highest grade.
Jairus Byrd also made the Dallas Morning News All-Rookie team.
