Former Bills quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt has interviewed with an NFC team.
According to the St. Petersburg Times, Van Pelt interviewed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for their vacant quarterbacks coaching position.
Former Bears QBs coach Pep Hamilton has also interviewed for the position.
Van Pelt is coming off a season in which he was thrust into a difficult position. He was promoted to offensive coordinator just 10 days before the 2009 season after Turk Schonert was fired, but put together a heck of a game plan for the season opener at New England on Monday night.
Buffalo had a 24-13 lead with a little over five minutes remaining before a late fumble on a kick return allowed the Patriots to escape with a 25-24 victory.
Multiple injuries to the offensive line and inconsistent quarterback play compromised the offense’s effectiveness and limited play calling options for much of the 2009 season.
