Steelers Director of Football Operations Kevin Colbert spoke to some members of the Pittsburgh media on Friday and was asked about losing Doug Whaley, who was hired by the Bills as Assistant GM/Director of Pro Personnel.
Colbert offered the following.
“I was very disappointed to lose him, because he was a very valuable part of what we did in the personnel department, but I was terribly excited for him,” Colbert said. “To me, it was long overdue. Doug was here before I got here and just continued to grow in his role. It was disappointing that he wasn’t getting some opportunities to interview, because he was deserving at least to be considered for positions. We tried to hold onto him, but it was an opportunity he really couldn’t pass up.”
Bills GM Buddy Nix has made some quality initial moves in assembling his personnel department as well as his coaching staff. Some good pieces have been put into place. The free agency period and the draft should carry an extra bit of intrigue this year.
