In an exclusive interview with Yahoo Sports, Bills RB Marshawn Lynch said he intends to report for voluntary OTAs “sometime within the next week.”
OTA practices run this week from Tuesday to Thursday with a practice scheduled for each day. So it’s unclear if Lynch will be in town for any of this week’s sessions. He may arrive in Buffalo late this week to prepare for next week’s session of OTAs, which run June 1st to the 3rd.
Either way it must be reassuring to the coaching staff that they’ll see a player that they believe will play an integral role in their rushing attack this season.
Other interesting tidbits from the Yahoo Sports interview with Lynch, which took place in his agent’s office in California this past Friday, are as follows.
1 – Lynch reportedly requested a trade in April, but the Bills were only offered a 3rd round pick (sources tell Yahoo Sports it was the Texans and Seahawks) and did not deem it enough for the 24-year old back with a Pro Bowl under his belt.
2 – Lynch was said to weigh 215 pounds in the write up. That’s 15 pounds lighter than he came in last season when he thought added bulk would help him taking the pounding better, when in reality it may have slowed him a bit in 2009.
3 – He doesn’t view the pick of C.J. Spiller as an affront to his standing on the team. He sees him as an added weapon.
4 – He admits he’s made some poor decisions early in his career and is ready to “bounce back” from them. If Lynch proves to be as focused as he says he is, GM Buddy Nix’s decision to keep him on Buffalo’s roster might just prove to be a valuble one for an offense that’s dead set on running the ball this year.
