While Bills fans wait and wonder if Buffalo’s top two draft choices sign before camp opens, consider the NFL landscape with signings right now.
Here on July 19th, just one second-round pick (Jets Vladimir Ducasse) has signed and no first round picks have signed. Knowing Buffalo has seven of their nine draft choices under contract, with Alex Carrington the most recent addition, I’d say they’ve got a pretty good batting average right now.
Everyone knows that agents never want to look bad on a deal so they often wait until some kind of parameters are set around their client in their respective round. That really hasn’t happened in round one or two for this year’s draft class. So to this point not much has been accomplished with day one and day two draft picks.
The good news for Bills fans is there are more than a half dozen camp report dates of other NFL clubs that are earlier than Buffalo’s as far as rookies are concerned. So hopefully rookies from other clubs will have greater incentive to get their deals done, thereby setting parameters for the likes of Torell Troup and C.J. Spiller.
