Pt. of emphasis for offense
There are obviously a bunch of different things that the Bills offense is looking to improve in their second preseason game tonight, but head coach Chan Gailey would like to see one thing in particular with respect to efficiency. After reviewing the game tape of the preseason opener, Gailey wants to see his offensive players [...]
Number of snaps for starters
The amount of playing time for the starters has a pretty tight range for tonight’s game against Indianapolis. The Bills starters will go about 20-24 plays. Game time decision players like Eric Wood, Cornell Green, Demetrius Bell, Chris Kelsay, Paul Posluszny and Keith Ellison won’t go as long if they in fact suit up for [...]
No spec. teams for Spiller
With an increased workload on offense tonight due to the absence of Fred Jackson and Marshawn Lynch, C.J. Spiller won’t be seeing any time on special teams. Buffalobills.com has learned that Spiller, who returned a punt in the preseason opener, will only see time on offense as he’s expected to get about 20-24 plays. Expected [...]
Gailey downplays pressure
With Buffalo’s 1st team offense now closing in on two years without scoring a touchdown in the preseason, head coach Chan Gailey is making an effort to keep it from turning into a situation where the players on offense make it a bigger issue than it needs to be. Outside observers have been asking Trent [...]
Play list for 1st offense will expand
Even though Chan Gailey is expected to play things close to the vest in tonight’s preseason game so as not to tip off regular season opponents about their plans for the offense, Buffalo’s starters will still run a majority of plays out of their base offense, but there will be some changes from the first [...]
Trent on the QB competition
Trent Edwards has heard his head coach address the media. He knows nothing is set in concrete with respect to the starting QB job. That’s why he’s taking the following approach to help ensure he’s still atop the depth chart when the preseason has concluded. “I need to grow and continue to compete out there,” [...]
Wilson to start at FS
With starting FS Jairus Byrd out for tonight’s game following a procedure on his groin, a familiar face will be stepping for him. Buffalobills.com has learned that George Wilson will start at free safety in place of Byrd tonight against the Colts in Buffalo’s second preseason game. Wilson is all too familiar with the role [...]
Spiller’s true role to stay under wraps
C.J. Spiller will get the lion’s share of the work with the first unit in tonight’s preseason game with Indianapolis, but what you see from him tonight is not going to be anything close to how he’ll be used in the regular season. Head coach Chan Gailey admitted as much as he plans to have [...]
1st team offense wants a TD
Although Buffalo’s starting offense will be without Fred Jackson and Marshawn Lynch they will have more of their starting offensive linemen in the lineup tonight. They’re hoping that along with another week of work together will improve their execution enabling them to finish an offensive possession with a touchdown. “I feel like that’s something that we [...]
Good news on WR Nelson
It looks like the ankle injury suffered by rookie WR David Nelson is not as bad as initially feared. Head coach Chan Gailey stated that Nelson is unlikely to miss the rest of the preseason, which was the initial prognosis. “A lot better than was originally projected,” said Gailey. “I feel very good about it. [...]
Who spells Byrd?
With Jairus Byrd out indefinitely with his groin problem it will be interesting to see who lines up in his place. The safety that’s been running 2nd string in camp is George Wilson so logic would say he would slide into the starting role in Byrd’s absence. But last year when Byrd was out injured [...]
Kelsay expecting to play
Bills OLB Chris Kelsay, who was held out of the first preseason game, due to a shoulder injury suffered on the first day of camp, is fully expecting to suit up on Thursday night. How much is the question. “I’m expecting to play as much as they expect out of me,” he said. ”Health wise, I feel [...]
Brohm has to face the pressure
Knowing the starting offense is likely to see its most extensive action in the third preseason game, Thursday night’s preseason contest is likely to be Brian Brohm’s best chance to change the landscape of the team’s quarterback competition. “It’s very important,” said Gailey. ”The pressure on this is no different than the pressure he’d face in [...]
OT Green a likely game day decision
Right tackle Cornell Green has participated in practice all week coming off a knee injury suffered in practice the week before, but head coach Chan Gailey wants to wait on making a final call on Green’s availability for Thursday night’s preseason game in Toronto. “There’s a chance. I think we have to see. He went (Monday) [...]
Gailey says QB competition still open
He’s been asked more than once lately, and Chan Gailey maintains that the quarterback competition is still open. “All jobs are still open,” he said when asked specifically about the starting QB job. ”There’s no job that’s locked in right now. There are some guys that are way ahead and there are some guys that are [...]

Byrd has “complication”
Bills FS Jairus Byrd was absent from practice Tuesday. Head coach Chan Gailey provided an update as to why. “He had a complication earlier today and I think it’ll be resolved fairly quickly,” Gailey said. ”I don’t think it’s anything major he’s just getting it checked out. ” Gailey would only confirm that it is a [...]
Nelson out for rest of preseason
Head coach Chan Gailey stated after practice that David Nelson’s injuey in practice has cost him the rest of the preseason. “They’re taking him in for evaluation,” said Gailey. “It doesn’t look good, but I don’t think its long term. The question is whether he’ll be able to get back for the first of the [...]

WR Nelson injured
Buffalo’s leading receiver in the preseason opener just went down with an injury in red zone work. Nelson made the reception and then as he cut upfield he appeared to roll his ankle. He’s being tended to by athletic trainers on the field right now.
