Bills head coach Chan Gailey indicated on Wednesday who is going to be handling most of Paul Posluszny’s responsibilities on Sunday. With Poz out with a knee injury Gailey pointed to a veteran LB as the chief replacment.
“I think Keith is the guy that’s going to have to play the majority of the time,” said Gailey. “But the other guy will see quite a bit of action.”
The reason Ellison is probably going to see more of the action Sunday is because the Packers are likely going to spread the field with three and four wide sets and Ellison is a better coverage linebacker and a good fit in the nickel and dime packages. Look for Bryan Scott to factor into the subpackage linebacking coverage roles as well.
“This is an old habit for me,” said Ellison. “Ever since I’ve been here, something happens where I’m forced to play. So, my job is just to be ready and step up for this team.”
The other guy Gailey is referring to recently signed LB Akin Ayodele. Ayodele’s ability to familiarize himself with Buffalo’s defensive terminology will determine how much he does play, but being an eight-year veteran and having experience in 3-4 systems the past four seasons should shorten his learning curve and enable him to contribute on Sunday. He’ll line up in the Bills base package if it’s ever on the field.
