All indications out of Baltimore are that Ravens Pro Bowl safety Ed Reed will be back in their defensive lineup for the first time on Sunday. He was back practicing Wednesday. Head coach Chan Gailey knows all too well, how that changes Baltimore’s playmaking ability on the back end.
“He is a true ball hawk safety,” said Gailey. “He can read the quarterback’s eyes and make a lot of plays. He’s also a good blitzer if they decide to do that with him. He’s a Pro Bowl player and anytime you have a Pro Bowl player coming back to your football team, that’s an upgrade. The expectations are that he’ll play like he has in years past, and he makes their already tough defense even tougher.”
Gailey said Reed’s presence in the Baltimore lineup will not change their offensive game plan for Sunday, but it will have some effect on the offense.
“It doesn’t affect the game plan as much as what you tell your quarterback,” Gailey said. “That’s one other thing for the quarterback to keep his eye to make sure that Ed isn’t cheating and watching your eyes. It changes some of the thought process for the quarterback.”
