Almost as impressive as Stevie Johnson’s production this season has been the wide receiver’s creativity when it comes to his extracurricular touchdown activities. But what did Chan Gailey think of his theatrics?
Back in Week 3 Johnson mimicked the Minutmen re-enactors that “patrol” the back of the end zone and fire their muskets after every New England touchdown at Gillette Stadium when he scored there. He promptly got an earful from Chan Gailey when he returned to the sidelines.
On Sunday in response to T.O. and Chad Ochocinco’s – self-proclamation of themselves as Batman and Robin, declared on twitter that Captain Chaos was coming to Gotham Sunday. And upon his first trip of three to the end zone in Buffalo’s big comeback win, lifted his shirt to reveal the question, ‘Why So Serious?’ from the Batman – The Dark Knight movie, as he played the role of the Joker.
While Ochocinco gave it two thumbs up on twitter, Gailey was more non-committal.
“I don’t know,” said Gailey when asked for his thoughts on Stevie’s T-shirt message. “What do you want me to say? I didn’t see the movies, I didn’t see the t-shirt, I didn’t see anything. I think you’ve got to be smart. You’ve got to be smart in this business. Be interesting to see what the league does.”
Johnson said after the game that he’s fully expecting a fine from the league, and knowing he’s still on his rookie contract he said there likely won’t be any more creativity after touchdowns.
