Stevie Johnson is in just the third season of his NFL career and first as a starter. In addition to having a breakout season, Johnson has also demonstrated some leadership in mentoring rookie receiver Donald Jones as he has stepped into the team’s third receiver role.
The main reason why Johnson and Jones became tight teammates so quickly is because they share a lot of the same experiences, not the least of which is having kids early in their career. Johnson has two young children, while Jones just had his first child born in August.
“Everything that you really do is for your children and that’s my focus,” Jones told Buffalobills.com. “Everything I do is for him. Steve is the same way. He’s a family guy and everything he does is for his kids. We both went to JUCO, and we’ve kind of traveled the same path. He went in the seventh round and I was undrafted so we’re kind of similar.”
Jones also credits Johnson with helping him in taking on a bigger role in Buffalo’s offense after Roscoe Parrish went on injured reserve with a dislocated wrist.
