Jets RB LaDainian Tomlinson had some impactful words for C.J. Spiller when the two spoke briefly after one of the two meetings between the Jets and Bills this past season.
Spiller’s rookie season did not pan out quite as he envisioned it, but he feels his first NFL season was a valuable one in terms of lessons learned. He even felt he’s learned just by watching guys like Tomlinson and Tennessee’s Chris Johnson on tape, but Tomlinson’s words in a brief postgame conversation this season carried just as much weight.
“I had the opportunity to meet him and the thing he told me is it’s a long career, don’t let this one season define the type of player you are,” recalled Spiller. “That was probably the most encouraging thing, coming from a future Hall of Fame running back like him, for him to come to me and say that. He’s a very tough runner, he picks up protection very well. He’s a great back and he’s a guy that I can definitely learn from because we’ve got similar styles, similar body types so he’s definitely been a help.”
Spiller will most definitely be watching Tomlinson this weekend as the Jets take on the Steelers for the right to represent the AFC in Super Bowl XLV.
