Even though a large portion of the questions for Bills head coach Chan Gailey today focused on drafting a quarterback here at the NFL combine, Gailey still stood by QB Ryan Fitzpatrick saying he’s convinced Fitz is a guy they can win with.
“I’ve said all along I am extremely confident in Ryan Fitzpatrick,” Gailey said. ”I really am. I think that he played well enough until he got to the very end, the next to last game he was in when he got banged up. I think he played well enough to prove to a lot of people and me and our staff included that he can play well and we can win a bunch of football games with a guy like that. I’ve been to the playoffs a couple of times with guys that haven’t performed as well as Ryan has, so I think we can do it.”
So no matter how well any of the quarterbacks do here in the interview setting or on the field throwing, it does not appear as though the Bills believe there’s someone in Indianapolis that’s capable of stepping in as a rookie starter in this draft class. Otherwise one would think Gailey would hedge on his above comment somewhat. Gailey has said before that Fitz is his starter for 2011, and that has obviously not changed.
