Bills regional scout Shawn Heinlen was asked for his assessment of first-round pick Marcell Dareus prior to the time he was selected when scouts were made available in the week leading up to the draft. Here was his take on the Alabama defensive lineman.

“Athletic big man,” said Heinlen. ”He’s powerful. He’s explosive. The ability he has to shed blockers is what impresses me the most. His ability to engage the offensive tackle or guard or center when he’s playing at the nose on occasion and control that blocker and either collapse the pocket, discard the player to make a play or to just change what the offense is trying to do that’s the thing that’s most impressive with him.”
