Shawne Merriman was glad to be back playing football. Listening to him after his first camp practice with the Bills it was interesting to hear what one of his main goals was coming into this season.
One of my goals was to come out here and do everything,” he said. “It’s going to take a lot of work, but I’m willing to put in that work to do it.
“There are a lot of guys who haven’t done anything in six or seven months. It’s a level playing field. I have been out of the game a little while and I’m trying to get back on the same page.”
Bills head coach Chan Gailey is waiting for the day when the team is in full pads before he makes a call on just where Merriman is at.
“When he gets the pads on, to me that’s where he makes the difference,” said Gailey. “I think in pass rush and leadership, that’s what we expect to see right now till we get the pads on. Once we get the pads on it will be obvious.”
He certainly looked to be moving around alright during Saturday’s practice, which was in shells, but Gailey is right, you see the real player in pads.
