Bills LT Demetrius Bell has been the starter there the past two seasons, so suddenly being rotated with the man that he’s played alongside for those same two seasons certainly came as a bit of a surprise.
“Coach Gailey told me he was going to put him in and get him some snaps at left (tackle),” said Bell. “It came as a shock but that’s the nature of the business. You have to understand that. I just have to come out here and keep getting better.”
When asked if he was bothered by it Bell said he wasn’t.
“No,” Bell said. “He’s the coach and he knows what is good for the team. I respect his decision. It is what it is. It’s football, the most cutthroat business there is so you have to live with it and take it in stride.”
Through practice on Tuesday, Bell started at left tackle for three reps and then stepped out with Levitre kicking out from left guard to left tackle for three reps and it went 50-50 for pretty much the entire practice. Chad Rinehart stepped in for Levitre at left guard when he moved out to tackle.
Bell and Levitre also each got some reps with the second unit.
“I think we are going to continue to do that for the rest of the practices,” Bell said.
