Merriman to play Thursday

For the first time since the preseason opener, Shawne Merriman will play with his fellow starters on Thursday night against the Lions.

“He’s going to play,” said head coach Chan Gailey. ”He needs to play. He hasn’t played in a couple of years. He wants to play. He seems to be physically fit, if he wasn’t we wouldn’t put him out there. We’re going to let him go try a few plays.”

Gailey said the starters will play anywhere from six to 10 plays at the beginning of the game and then be done for the night, as is typically the case. Kickoff on Thursday will be at 6:30 pm.
