Bills WR David Nelson has a ticket count of 82 when he returns to his native Texas Sunday for the Bills-Cowboys game. What’s going to be intriguing about his return is the potential for a very compromising scenario should he score a touchdown in the game.
Nelson’s long time girlfriend, Kelsi Reich, is a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader (see photo at bottom). Her job is to root for the Cowboys, but it’s hard not to think that she’d like her significant other to be successful as well.
“She works for the Dallas Cowboys and roots for the Dallas Cowboys, but I know she’ll have some inside joy if I do well,” said Nelson. “So it’s going to be a fun experience and I’m going to definitely be looking and record the TV copy and see if they show her a couple of times to see her reaction. It’s going to be fun. It’s something we’ve been looking forward to for some time and we’ve already been trash talking back and forth a little bit.”
When asked specifically if the protocol would allow her to cheer for him if he scored a touchdown, Nelson offered the following response.
“If I’m in the area where she is I’m sure I’ll have something planned for that, but I also don’t want to get her in too much trouble,” he said fully aware of her job. “I obviously couldn’t get in trouble, but she could. I’m discussing some things and try to surprise her a little bit if maybe something happens.”
Nelson assured the surprise does not involve a marriage proposal.
“I can honestly tell you 100 percent it will not be a proposal. Been there and done that,” said Nelson in reference to Boise State RB Ian Johnson, wh0 proposed to his cheerleader girlfriend right after the Broncos bowl upset of Oklahoma a few years ago. “I want to do something that hasn’t been done before, but the situation has to be right. I’m not a big celebration guy when I score, but this is a special situation and if something happens I’ll be looking to enjoy the situation.”
