Miami’s Bowles named interim coach
Posted by on December 12, 2011 – 5:10 pmWith Tony Sparano fired by the Dolphins on Monday the Bills will be looking at a different head coach on the opposite sideline Sunday.
Dolphins owner Stephen Ross named secondary coach Todd Bowles as interim head coach of the club Monday.
“This was a very difficult decision, but I believe it is in the best interests of the Miami Dolphin organization to make this change at this point in time,” said Ross. “The current situation was not fair to both Tony and the team – it was a distraction to everyone and put them all in a very difficult situation. We need to start the process right now to begin the steps needed to return the Dolphins back to one of the elite teams in the NFL.
“I know that Todd will do an outstanding job – he is respected by the players and by everyone in the Dolphin organization. I am confident that Todd, the rest of the coaching staff and the players will continue to show the same dedication and work ethic they have displayed all year to finish the season strongly.”
Head coach Chan Gailey when asked if he’s expecting anything different from the Dolphins this week in light of the change said he couldn’t know for sure having never been in this situation in his coaching career where he’s facing a team in their first game with an interim coach.
