With the news that Vince Young is coming in for a workout Wednesday, Buddy Nix again shows if he even thinks there’s a possibility to upgrade a position he’ll explore it.
Now Young, as it’s been explained to me, is being considered by the Bills as a backup option. If the workout goes well he could be signed. What needs to be taken into account is Young as a free agent has the freedom to choose as well. And he stated just a few weeks ago that he wants a situation where he can compete for the starting job.
“Yeah definitely. Always want to go in and compete for the starting job and the things that I put myself through to get better and better and to better myself as a quarterback, just waiting on that opportunity to get the chance to do that,” Young told KILT radio in Houston last month. “We have a couple of teams with interest right now and just looking for the best opportunity for myself, my family and for me to go out and compete for a starting job.”
That situation doesn’t exist in Buffalo, so the fact that he’s coming might indicate Young is more open to a backup role. We’ll have to wait and see how things play out Wednesday.
Young in that same interview said the reason he believes he’s still starting caliber for the NFL is because Andy Reid told him he didn’t want to re-sign him for the Eagles because he considers him a starter and that he should be playing somewhere in the league instead of backing up Michael Vick.
