Bills QB Ryan Fitzpatrick has developed a hearty respect for FS Jairus Byrd, and not just because he got two INTs in practice Monday.
“The guy stepped in his rookie year and had nine picks, so we all know he’s got a great nose for the ball,” said Fitzpatrick. “He’s done a great job this entire offseason in terms of being a guy that’s in the right spot and always seems to be making plays. He’s certainly a guy we hope is making a lot of plays this year.”
Fitz cited Byrd’s extra work that he’s put in each and every chance he gets as a reason for his development.
“Jairus is a guy that’s always putting in that extra effort whether it’s working out, taking care of his body or coming and asking questions of me, studying other players, or talking to other players. He’s a guy that just wants to be better. It’s easy for a guy to rest on what he did his rookie year, but he’s a guy that has continued to improve and even the physicality of his game to me from the sideline watching, he’s become a much better player. He’s continued to get better every year and we’re hoping for big things this year.”
Ironically, Byrd was doing extra conditioning work after practice right when Fitzpatrick was talking about him.
