VH-1 President Tom Calderone

We had a chance on last night’s John Murphy Show to talk with super Bills fan Tom Calderone.  He’s a Buffalo State graduate (class of 1986) and currently the President of VH-1 Network in New York.  He’s also one of the most dedicated and devoted Buffalo Bills fans around.

Despite living in New York City, Calderone is a Bills season ticket holder.  He told us he regularly attends about six or seven home games every season.  And he was in the stands last Saturday night, for the Bills preseason game against the Steelers.  Calderone especially liked how the crowd in Ralph Wilson Stadium seemed to rattle Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger in the second quarter.

“When Roethlisberger was totally rattled, it brought a smile to my face,” Calderone said on the radio show.  “I remember how loud the stadium was at that time, we were totally getting under his skin.  The atmosphere is always good, but I did like the fact that the twelfth man was alive.  It was rocking in our section, you could just tell, we got under his skin.”

Calderone has high hopes for the upcoming season, but he is worried about preseason expectations being too high for his favorite team.

“The hype.  It happened after  5-and-2 last year,” he says.  “The hype always concerns me.   I also wonder-does it affect the team’s head sometimes?  I hope they just lay low and take a deep breath, get into the season and just get going.”

Calderone says he’ll be back in Buffalo for the home opener against Kansas City on September 16th.  He’ll also be in town to be inducted into the Buffalo Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame four days later.

The John Murphy Showis broadcast Monday through Friday from 7pm-9pm on the flagship station of the Bills, WGR Sports Radio 550.
