Over the past two weeks both the offense and the defense have been guilty of letting the opponent dictate play to them and reacting. As far as Kelvin Sheppard is concerned it’s time to reverse that trend.
“That was some of the things that our coaches were seeing on film,” said Sheppard. “We’re sitting back and letting them maybe catch a ball when we’re only a yard or two away from them and making a break on it maybe and making a play. We need to turn into the dictators and play downhill, shooting gaps and make the running backs adjust off of us rather than us adjusting off of the O-linemen and running backs.
“Just changing our mentality first and foremost. Our mentality has to be that we’re an aggressive downhill, attacking type defense. That’s the scheme that Dave Wannstedt definitely wants so it’s our jobs as players to go out and execute. We’ve just got to pull our trigger and get downhill and go make the plays and don’t leave those plays out there.”
