Buffalo has three young offensive linemen on their practice squad, so with holes to plug on the offensive line it was at least possible that the Bills would tap one of their developmental players to fill the void. But the team chose to go with a player that had a wealth of game time under his belt in Reggie Wells.
“To be honest with you we wanted some experience, somebody that had played in the league and had some success,” Bills GM Buddy Nix told Buffalobills.com. “The three guys we’ve got are good developmental guys, but probably not completely ready to step in.”
Wells’ versatility was also a plus.
“He played tackle and guard and he has started games at tackle and he’s actually played two or three games at center so he’s played all five spots,” said Nix. “but I’d say he’s best suited as a guard.”
