With eight sacks in his last seven games, Mario Williams is quickly climbing the sack list in the AFC.
Now with 9.5 sacks, Williams is now tied for fifth in the AFC with Cincinnati’s Geno Atkins. Ahead of them are Houston’s J.J. Watt (15.5), Denver’s Von Miller (15), Miami’s Cameron Wake (10.5) and Kansas City’s Justin Houston (10).
It’s clear that Williams’ injured wrist was a detriment to his power game as a pass rusher. Since wrist surgery during the bye week six of his 9.5 sacks have come in the last five games. And according to Williams, the wrist still isn’t 100 percent healthy.
“My wrist deal is healing definitely,” he said. “When I got the procedure and everybody was freaking out about it, I knew that after doing that it was going to progress and not be stagnant. With something like that, and continuing to play, obviously, it’s not going to be totally healed until after the season. But it’s definitely feeling better and its making me feel better.
