QUOTES OF THE DAY
Bills President/CEO Russ Brandon:
Q: Was there a “wow” moment in any of the interviews with Doug?
RB: I think from the first time we actually got together we were very impressed with Doug. We had extensive dialogue and conversations throughout the process. And Doug is ready. He’s done it. He’s done it as a player, he’s done it as an NFL coach, his references are impeccable. To have the experience of going back to college and managing the head coaching position at a Division I university, he’s the right man to lead this organization.
Bills Head Coach Doug Marrone:
Q: What is your core philosophy from an offensive standpoint; coming from Sean Payton and will we see a similar trend?
DM: Well I think the main thing is when you’re the head football coach you want to make sure that you are truly the CEO of the program, that you know what’s going on, on offense, you know what’s going on, on defense and you know what’s going on, on special teams. So from a management type of style that is who I am. I have to make sure that we know how we are going to win games and make sure I am managing all those three things. Again I will be involved with the coordinators, heavily involved with the game planning. I do take offense when people say “hey you’re an offensive coach”, I have been attacking defenses my whole entire life so I will say can you go out there and call it, that is one thing I haven’t done defensively but again, I understand coverage, I understand mechanics and things like that. I have a great understanding of defensive football as well as special teams.
Bills GM Buddy Nix:
Q: Do you see him as a nice combination of old-school and the cutting edge stuff we have been talking about?
BN: This guy is highly intelligent and keeps up with all of the new trends. He gets enough coaching at home, he knows about the old-school stuff too. We got the best of both worlds.
