BDC 1/8: Spiller & McKelvin Recognized

DAILY REPORT
–Sports Illustrated’s Peter King recognized Bills RB C.J. Spiller in his most recent Monday Morning Quarterback Column as one of his two most underappreciated players of the year. Spiller rushed for a career-high 1,244 yards on 207 carries and six touchdowns in 2012 – the first 1,000 yard season of his NFL career. Spiller tied for the NFL-lead averaging 6.0 yards per carry in 2012 among running backs (183-1,185).

–Bills PR Leodis McKelvin made King’s 2012 All-Pro Team that was published on Monday. McKelvin led the league in punt return average with a mark of 18.7 and was one of only two players with a pair of returns for touchdowns on punts. McKelvin is the first player in Bills history to return two punts for touchdowns (79-yard return in Week 11 vs. Miami and 88-yard return in Week Two vs. Kansas City) in the same season and matched a franchise record with three punt return touchdowns in his career.

ESPN Analyst Jon Gruden: “I would be really excited if I was a Bills fan. This is a guy I have been studying for a long time. I competed against him. He is a tough, hard-nosed and detailed coach. Really has a good command for the game and is really good teaching the game. I think he is going to win. I think he is going to get the Bills back in the playoffs soon. Coach Marrone is the kind of coach that can push you over the top. He has won everywhere he has been. I think he is going to continue to do that. He will find a way to get it done.”

Bills CB and punt returner Leodis McKelvin returned a punt 88-yards for a touchdown in the third quarter to help Buffalo defeat Kansas City 35-17. The 88-yard punt return touchdown was a career-long for McKelvin and the second-longest in franchise history (record = 91 yards by Keith Moody 10/23/77 v. Cleveland).
