In an interview with his hometown paper, Jets DC Mike Pettine confirms he’ll be sitting down with Bills head coach Doug Marrone.
The interview was far from unexpected after reports Monday that the Bills had requested and were granted permission to interview Pettine. Pettine (pronounced PET-inn) was quoted as saying the following by the Bucks County Courier Times of the opportunity to interview with the Bills.
“I’m certainly looking forward to sitting down with Doug Marrone and to see if there are other opportunities out there. There’s no timetable for anything.”
Pettine also explained why he turned down a contract extension from the Jets last month.
“I thought it would be good to be exposed to a different style of coaching, a different system,” he told the Burlington County Times. “It’s like continuing education, the more things you can expose yourself too, it’s beneficial. It’s certainly not a knock on the Jets. I still haven’t ruled out a return. It’s just something that, when I consulted with my agent, (turning down an extension with the Jets) felt like the right thing to do at that time. … This is just the beginning of the process.”
Pettine also said he’s keeping an eye on what happens with the Eagles coaching staff with it being his hometown team.
