The Bills have turned the page from 2012 to 2013, including a major overhaul of the coaching staff. But one thing that went fairly well last season was Buffalo’s special teams.
The Dallas Morning News is out with its’ annual rankings of special teams units around the league. And Buffalo’s special teams ranked eighth, in the composite ranking put together by longtime NFL writer Rick Gosselin. He factors in 22-different special teams categories and ranks each team according to their performance in that category. Gosselin then assigns points for each category and adds them up to determine the rankings.
The Bills led the league in punt returns in 2012, averaging 17.1 yards per return. They also had the most blocked kicks in the league (5). Buffalo was last in the NFL in punt coverage, allowing 14.8 yards per return.
