He may not be at the top of every draft board, but Syracuse QB Ryan Nassib is the number one ranked prospect on at least one of them.
Russ Lande, Director of Scouting for the National Football Post, has Nassib ranked as his top prospect this year. Lande came out with his Top 200 Draft Prospects this week.
“Within one half of the first game I graded him, it was clear to me that he was an elite prospect,” Lande said Wednesday night on The John Murphy Show.
“As I finished grading out five games,” he said, “I think when you look at him you see a kid that’s very athletic. He’s got a live arm. He has the best mechanics of any of the quarterbacks in this draft in terms of his footwork. He has a quick release, it’s quick and compact; the ball comes out with a burst. Very accurate thrower, he can make all the NFL throws.”
Lande is a former scout for the Rams and the Browns. He’s been watching the draft closely for years, and he says he’s only picked up one significant flaw when it comes to Ryan Nassib.
” I think the only issue that I had with him, in terms of repeated error, is that he needs a lot of work on his deep ball accuracy. He tends to hang the ball up there. It forces the receiver to stop and it allows the defender to close on the ball. Other than that, there was no error that I saw over and over.”
