Bills head coach Doug Marrone is not only the former head coach of the Syracuse Orange, he’s also an alum. New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin, who considers Marrone a friend as much as a colleague is also a Syracuse alum and selfishly wished Marrone hadn’t moved on to the NFL. That’s because he thinks he’s a darn good football coach.
“Doug is a good coach,” said Coughlin. “We’ve watched him closely when he was at Syracuse. He used to visit me in the offseason. He’s very serious, very smart. Syracuse is going to miss Doug Marrone, no doubt. I’m an alum, so I wasn’t even aware. I had read that he had interviewed a couple places, but I saw Doug yesterday and wished him well again. I sent a little note to him, he texts me and I text him back. I saw him yesterday and wished him well and he put his staff together fast and he’s hit the floor running, without a doubt.”
Marrone has said he considers Coughlin a mentor and influence on his coaching career.
