For former Heisman trophy winner Matt Leinart, his NFL career up until now has not been what he, or most that watched him as a college quarterback, envisioned for him as a pro. Staying healthy and performing with consistency on the field have proved difficult to capture at times for the veteran signal caller. But none of that matters as head coach Doug Marrone sees it.
“I’m trying to look at what he is now,” said Marrone. ”It’s the same thing that I do with all the players. Someone’s past history positive or negative, I want to see how he produces in what we ask him to do. That’s how I judge him because if you go the other way you assume or you have a vision in your mind of how the player is supposed to play and if he doesn’t you’ll think you need to get another player. I don’t think you can do that. That’s the way I’ve always done it.”
