An AFC team lands a highly-regarded player with a blockbuster in-season trade involving a first-round draft pick.

What year is it again?

While the Colts and Browns grabbed attention for their deal on Wednesday, Buffalo was a trade partner in one of the largest trades in NFL history back in 1987, a 10-player, three-team move that was heralded as the “trade of the decade” at the time.

When it was over, the Bills landed LB Cornelius Bennett, a former first-round pick himself, who went on to play eight decorated seasons in Buffalo. “Biscuit,” as he came to be known, was a two-time AFC Defensive Player of the Year, three-time All-Pro, and five-time Pro Bowler who helped the Bills to four straight Super Bowl appearances.

The L.A. Rams got a haul of draft picks and a pair of running backs from the Bills and Colts in exchange for future Hall of Famer Eric Dickerson, while Indianapolis got Dickerson, sent Bennett to Buffalo, and picks to L.A. Got all that?

Here’s a recap of the 1987 deal, courtesy of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
