Cleveland defensive coordinator Ray Horton has the Browns defense off to a good start. They currently rank third in the league in total defense, fourth against the run, ninth against the pass and 11th in sacks per play. It makes one realize why Buffalo interviewed him for their head coaching post this past January.
When the Bills were searching for a new head coach out in Arizona, they interviewed Horton, who had just finished running the Arizona Cardinals defense under Ken Whisenhunt, whom the Bills also interviewed.
Horton has a strong defensive resume and had a prior working relationship with Bills GM Doug Whaley with the Steelers organization. Obviously in the end Doug Marrone was deemed the better choice.
