Bills newly promoted RB Ronnie Wingo is expected to see action Sunday if Spiller is inactive for Sunday’s game. That looks to be likely with Spiller not practicing all week and listed as doubtful. Of course the first time Wingo thought he’d get the call a few weeks ago he thought that would be the case too.
When Spiller first injured his ankle in the game against the Ravens in Week 4, there was a short turnaround to their Week 5 game at Cleveland, which was on a Thursday night. It was really uncertain as to whether Spiller would be ready on such short rest.
Wingo, still on the practice squad, made the trip with the team, uncommon for practice squad players as a precaution.
“I was excited and had some nerves because you never know,” said Wingo of his Week 5 travel with the team. “But if you prepare the right way the game will come easy and you won’t be out there thinking too much. So that’s what I did and that’s the way I’ve prepared each week.”
Spiller was worked out in a park of all places the morning before the game and was deemed well enough to play. The team ultimately left Wingo on the practice squad and Spiller played delivering a touchdown run in the game.
“There was anxiety making the road trip and right before the game I found out C.J. was going to play and watching the game I was wishing I could play,” Wingo told Buffalobills.com. “Now I might get my chance.”
