He has a background in coaching defensive backs, but for right now Buffalo’s newest assistant coach Jeff Hafley has the title of defensive assistant. Head coach Doug Marrone explained why.
“Anytime you have a chance to get a coach that you admire who is a good, young football coach who is up and coming you go ahead and do that. And that’s what we did,” said Marrone. “We brought Jeff on as a defensive assistant until we know the direction that we’re going.”
With plans to possibly fill a linebackers coach opening and the undetermined situation with defensive coordinator Mike Pettine, who is in the running for the Browns head coaching job, it seems like some dust will have to settle before Hafley’s duties on defense are more specific.
