As we outlined in our Friday story, Kiko Alonso will be moving to weak side linebacker to take better advantage of his athleticism and speed. Playing out there will keep him out of traffic more and linemen from getting to him at the second level. Here’s a good look at the difference for Alonso.
As CBSSports.com’s Pete Prisco points out with NFL video, Alonso can get engulfed at times when lined up as the ‘mike’ linebacker by linemen, but when he’s out in space he can be dynamite. Take a look at the difference in the two video clips. Lining up on the weak side will afford him more opportunities to make plays in space where he should thrive.
