Condolences and heartfelt memories of Bills owner Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. have poured in since the announcement of his passing on Tuesday, but perhaps none closer to home – at least in the literal sense – than those of Bills fans themselves.
Several hundred fans gathered on Sunday in a fitting tribute to the Bills Hall of Fame owner: a tailgate party, organized by The Bills Mafia.
Just a day after a paying his own respects to Mr. Wilson at a private funeral in Detroit, Bills President and CEO Russ Brandon stopped by to address the crowd with a rousing speech from the parking lots behind Ralph Wilson Stadium.
“You guys are the ones who have gotten us through this over the last few days,” said Brandon.
“I worked for Mr. Wilson for 18 years. What he loved the most were the fans and the passion. Mr. Wilson was the most passionate man in all of pro football. He was very passionate about this region and this team, right here in Buffalo!”
And when asked how best to honor the legacy of the Bills founder and guiding light, Brandon says the answer is simple.
“One word: WIN!”
