Bills head coach Doug Marrone was asked about Mike Williams down at the league meetings in Orlando last week. It was clear then, even before the wheels really got turning on today’s trade and Buffalo’s acquisition of Williams, that the Bills sideline boss had an affinity for the receiver as a person and a player. Here’s what he said.
“I’ve always had a lot of respect for Mike. I thought Mike was a heck of a football player,” said Marrone. “We had a lot of conversations. There were a lot of good things that were going on. I had obviously gotten a lot of calls before the draft that year and I told those guys that Mike would do well. We’ve been disconnected from when he left to his time in Tampa, but I liked Mike. I really did. I wish him well. I talked to Jason (Licht) just the other day to see if he was okay because I care about him.”
