There’s a lot of orientation going on this weekend at the Bills rookie minicamp. Head Coach Doug Marrone says part of the job this weekend is to check on the conditioning levels of the 30-players in camp, and to indoctrinate them to the Bills way of running drills. Then there’s their first introduction to the Buffalo playbook.
But the Bills Head Coach also delivered a stern message to the rookies about the reality of life in the NFL.
“The one thing I told them before is that this is a league that’s not going to wait on you,” he said. “Either you get to know it, you learn it and you go out there and play it or you’re not going to be here very long. ”
Marrone said where a player was drafted, or whether he was drafted, means little to him now.
“I don’t really care,” he said. “Just because you’re a second round or first round pick, doesn’t mean that you’re automatically going to play. Hell, we got guys that have been on this team fighting for their lives, fighting for a job. We start playing people based on where they’re drafted, we’re going to lose a lot of games.”
Marrone will have the Bills rookies back on the field Sunday for day two of their three day minincamp.
