Bills voluntary OTAs are still more than a week away, but that hasn’t quelled Sammy Watkins eagerness to get on the field with Buffalo QB EJ Manuel. With rookie minicamp now in the rearview mirror Watkins is anxious to get started with the team’s starting quarterback.
“I can’t wait,” said Watkins. “That’s the best time where you’ve got the right time with the quarterbacks and you’ve got the older guys at wideout teach you the routes and the steps and the releases. That’s going to be timing also so I can’t wait to get started with him.”
Watkins is also preparing himself for the fact that facing NFL veterans in OTAs means it’ll be harder for him to win on every route in practice.
“It takes time. Those guys have been here two and three years,” he said. “They’re going to win most of the matchups and I’ve just got to compete every day with a workmanlike mentality and know there are going to be positives and negatives in the early stages.”
The first voluntary OTA practices begin next Wednesday.
