During Ross Cockrell’s four years at Duke the Blue Devils only faced Clemson once while Sammy Watkins was on the Tigers roster. In that game Cockrell didn’t even get a chance to cover Watkins, but with good reason.
Cockrell was busy covering the receiver who was a first-round pick in 2013 for Clemson.
“I didn’t really get a chance to guard him much,” said Cockrell of Watkins. “I was covering DeAndre Hopkins, so they had a two-headed monster that year.”
After seeing a lot more of him in practice during Buffalo’s rookie minicamp, Cockrell is pretty convinced that Watkins is the real deal.
“Sammy is an explosive guy,” Cockrell said. “He was explosive in college, he’s explosive here so he’s going to be a great player.”
