Bills CB Leodis McKelvin remains on the Active/Non-Football Injury list and apparently that’s where he’ll be for a while according to head coach Rex Ryan.
Ryan revealed on Thursday that McKelvin’s injury is pretty severe. He has his right foot in a protective boot.
“He’s not that healthy,” said Ryan. “We have to move on and when Leodis is ready it’ll be great to get him. We can’t miss a beat. You play Corey (Graham) and then there’s where (Ronald) Darby is having a really strong camp and (Stephon) Gilmore is obviously one of the best corners in the league. We’re pretty good at corner even without Leodis, but obviously we can’t wait for him to get back. Injury is a part of this game and the next man has to be ready to step up and quite honestly I think Darby is.”
Ryan said McKelvin had a setback over the summer and that the cornerback may have had a procedure to correct the setback. At this point he doesn’t know if McKelvin would be ready for Week 1 of the regular season against the high octane offense of the Indianapolis Colts.
“I know he’s going to be back at some point. I can’t tell you if it’s going to be the first game, but it’s a significant injury,” said Ryan. “He will play this season. It’s just when he’s going to be available I’m not that sure.”
