More than 10,100 Western New Yorkers have answered the call to healthier lifestyles during the first three weeks of this fall’s “Independent Health and Buffalo Bills Health & Wellness Challenge.”

Since kicking off on October 5, the Health & Wellness Challenge has seen participants log at least 3,400 hours of exercise, while consuming nearly 70,000 servings of fruits and vegetables and 115,400 glasses of water. In addition, the community-wide health and wellness initiative has seen yet another significant increase in participation, as nearly 2,800 new participants have signed up for the latest round.

The Health & Wellness Challenge will conclude on Sunday, November 15; however, it’s not too late to register and be part of this exciting initiative. Those interested in signing up can still do so at buffalobills.com/thechallenge.

How the Health & Wellness Challenge works

The six-week Health & Wellness Challenge is designed to motivate individuals to get healthier by meeting daily goals for opportunities to win a variety of prizes, including a grand prize trip for four to Hawaii for the Pro Bowl on February 1, 2016. The three main daily goals are:

  1. 20 minutes of physical activity a day
  2. Eat five servings of fruits and vegetables every day
  3. Drink eight glasses of water each day

Participants can also complete one “extra points” health-related challenge each day to gain more chances to win. As an added bonus, participants who refer their friends, family and co-workers can earn 10 extra points for each person who registers for the Health & Wellness Challenge. Participants keep track of their progress and learn about that day’s “extra points” challenge by logging-in at buffalobills.com/thechallenge.

In addition to the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, five participants are randomly selected each week to win great prizes. Among the prizes that have been awarded so far include Sammy Watkins and Eric Wood autographed mini-football helmets, a Robert Woods autographed football, a one week stay for two at the Biggest Loser Resort Niagara, a Microsoft Surface Tablet, three $500 gift cards to a sporting goods store, three $250 gift cards for workout apparel, a $150 gift card to use toward one wearable activity tracker, and three $150 Visa® gift cards. The winner of the grand prize trip to Hawaii will be announced upon conclusion of the Health & Wellness Challenge.

The number of points earned throughout the Health & Wellness Challenge will determine the number of chances participants have in the weekly and grand prize drawing. To be eligible to win a prize, participants must be at least 18 years of age and a legal resident of New York State at the time of entry. Complete rules and prize details are available at buffalobills.com/thechallenge.
