With Stephon Gilmore’s status up in the air for the game against the Eagles this weekend, Bills head coach Rex Ryan is awfully thankful to have veteran Leodis McKelvin ready to plug in if necessary on Sunday.
Gilmore left Sunday’s game with a shoulder injury and did not return. McKelvin stepped in for him at cornerback, his first action at that position this season and fared well.
“It’s great to have Leodis,” said Ryan. “He’s been a huge contributor for us when he came back. The fact that we have a guy, a starting corner and not just a starting corner, a good starting corner that can go in, that’s absolutely huge for us. Obviously if Steph can’t go Leo will have to step right up in there and we’ll be fine with it.”
As for McKelvin’s play Sunday in relief of Gilmore, Ryan on the whole was pleased with his performance.
“He did a good job,” Ryan said. “He did a really good job.”
