Buffalo’s defense is going to need to be gap sound on defense with the Cowboys one cut and go rushers in their offensive backfield. Knowing the game is likely to be ground-based due to the weather the Bills have to be mindful of the one cut and go nature of Darren McFadden and company.
“He’s got blazing speed,” said head coach Rex Ryan of McFadden. “I think that’s the first thing you think about with him. You trying to keep a home run hitter like him to singles. I think that’s the challenge. I’ve had a decent day or two against him but he also had a humongous day against me once when I was with the Jets. So I know the type of athlete he is and obviously you got to…you can’t give him the perimeter cause he’s gonna out run probably everybody you got.”
McFadden’s big day against Ryan was back in 2011 when McFadden was with the Raiders. He rolled up 171 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns on just 19 carries to average nine yards per carry. So being gap sound is essential.
“It’s gap responsibility and gap integrity and it’s really trust and understanding where your teammates fit,” said Manny Lawson. “I have to believe my defensive front is going to be in the gaps they’re going to be in so I can be in the gap that I’m going to be in.”
