NEXUS Release 1

On December 29, 2015 the NEXUS mobile enrollment team in conjunction with the Buffalo Bills, held an event at Ralph Wilson Stadium affording area residents and Bills fans a chance to visit Ralph Wilson stadium and complete the NEXUS sign-up process. More than 80 applicants took advantage of the event to complete personal interviews with U.S. Customs and Border Protection and Canada Border Services Agency officers.

“The Bills are always interested in ways to improve the game day experience, and the NEXUS program is certainly a quicker and more efficient process to help fans cross the border when traveling to and from Bills games,” said Andy Major, Buffalo Bills vice president of operations and guest experience. “We truly appreciate working together with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection and Canada Border Protection Service teams, and we look forward to further promoting this great opportunity for fans to improve their travel times across the border.”

“The mobile enrollment event at Ralph Wilson Stadium was a huge success,” said Mark MacVittie, acting port director for the Port of Buffalo. “The partnership with the Buffalo Bills has been tremendous and has helped promote and increase participation in the NEXUS Trusted Traveler program.  Participation in this government program to expedite cross border travel for low risk travelers not only helps fans get to the games faster but also helps reduce border wait times throughout the year.”

As part of the event, the Buffalo Bills gave away autographed photos and K. Grace of Hamburg was the raffle winner of a Mario Williams autographed football.

The NEXUS application process normally requires applicants to visit an enrollment center either in Ft. Erie or Niagara Falls. The mobile enrollment event gave applicants the chance to take advantage of an expedited vetting process which normally takes up to 6 weeks and then participate in an interview at Ralph Wilson Stadium.

NEXUS is a Trusted Traveler program conducted by CBP and CBSA. In addition saving time by using NEXUS lanes when crossing to Canada, members also enjoy the additional benefits of TSA PreCheck, and Global Entry.  NEXUS enrollment costs $50, and is valid for five years.  For more information on NEXUS, visit:  http://www.cbp.gov/travel/trusted-traveler-programs/nexus
